Philadelphia, Pa. – The Fordham women's tennis team concluded its fall season at the ITA Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania where
Carina Ma and
Estelle Wong advanced to the round of 16 in the doubles draw.
Ma and Wong opened doubles play with a 8-1 win over Fairfield's Emily Lombardi and Sarah Stuhlman in the round of 64 and then blanked Saint Francis' Laura Gutierrez and Nastasia Tamarkin 8-0 in the round of 32 before falling to Harvard's Anna Li and Annika Ringblom 8-3 in the round of 16.
In singles play, Wong won her way out of the qualifying draw defeating St. John's Zofia Stanisz 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 and Drexel's Ghita Benhadi 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 to earn a spot in the main singles bracket.
In the main singles bracket, Ma defeated Buffalo's Emel Abibula 7-5, 6-2 before falling to Princeton's Stephanie Schrage 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the second round. Wong fell to Syracuse's Libi Mesh 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the opening round.
In the consolation singles draw, Wong defeated Drexel's Clary-Rodriguez 6-2, 6-4, while
Tatiana Grigoryan defeated Wagner's Samantha Hodges 6-0, 6-1 and Army's Gloria Son 6-7, (4), 6-4, 11-9.
