Football Knocks off Georgetown, 17-9

Rams snap five-game losing streak

Washington, D.C. – In baseball parlance, today's Fordham-Georgetown Patriot League football game was a pitcher's duel. But in the end the Ram defense outperformed their Hoya counterparts to lead Fordham to a 17-9 win on Cooper Field.

With the win, the Rams snap a five-game losing skid and improve to 2-6 overall on the year, 1-2 in the Patriot League, while Georgetown falls to 1-6 overall, 0-2 in the league.

Junior wideout Austin Longi led the offense, hauling in a career-high 13 passes for 150 yards and one score, while freshman Andrew Mevis kicked three field goals to provide all the Fordham scoring.

The Rams took a 6-0 lead on a pair of Mevis field goals (a 30-yarder in the first quarter and a 31-yarder in the second) but the Hoyas scored on a 12-yard pass with 3:11 in the half and were ready to take a 7-6 lead. But the extra point attempt was blocked and scooped up by Jesse Bramble who returned it for two points and an 8-6 Fordham lead.

The 8-6 score stood until a Georgetown field goal in the third gave the Hoyas a 9-8 lead but the Rams responded with a ten-yard scoring strike from Luke Medlock to Longi to put the Rams up 14-9 with 7:16 left in the third.

The Rams closed out the scoring with Mevis' third field goal, a 31-yarder with 9:18 left.

Takeaways
The Rams played without their starting quarterback (Kevin Anderson), starting running back (Chase Edmonds) and three of their top receivers (Corey Caddle, Jonathan Lumley and Andrew Prince).

The Rams were also without services of leading tackler Glenn Cunningham.

It was the first time in four years that Kevin Anderson or Chase Edmonds was not in the starting lineup for Fordham.

The Fordham defense held the Hoyas to just 78 net yards of offense and three first downs in the second half.

Former Ram quarterback Mike Nebrich handled the color commentary for the Patriot League Network broadcast.

The blocked extra point was Fordham's first since last year's Bucknell game and was the first defensive extra point scored by the Rams since 1991.

Austin King made an appearance in the game, attempting a two-point conversion pass to Medlock.

The last time a Fordham kicker connected on three field goals in a game was Makay Redd against Navy last year.

D'Angelo Palladino gained 40 of his game-high 70 rushing yards in the fourth quarter.
