Hempstead, N.Y. – The Fordham University women's tennis team closed out their third tournament of the fall season in style as
Carina Ma won the A singles title,
Tatiana Grigoryan and
Gianna Insogna won the A doubles draw and
Maia Balce and
Whitney Weisberg were finalists in their respective singles flights.
Grigoryan, Insogna Win A Doubles Draw
In A singles,
Carina Ma cruised past LIU's Malin Leysen 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and Hofstra's Michal Kaplan 6-4, 6-0 in the semifinals before defeating LIU's Anna Grigoryan 6-2, 6-4 in the finals to claim the A singles title. Also in A singles,
Tatiana Grigoryan defeated Quinnipiac's Jennifer Lu 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 in the quarterfinals before falling to big sister Anna Grigoryan of LIU 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals.
Estelle Wong defeated Fairleigh Dickinson's Tatiana Eftenoui 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 in the round of 16 before falling to LIU's Anna Grigoryan 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
In A doubles, Grigoryan and Insogna defeated Fairleigh Dickinson's Tatiana Eftenoui and Maria Vladescu 6-2 in the quarterfinals and Hofstra's Michal Kaplan and Alejandra Ruffini 7-6 (8-5) in the semis to get to the finals where they defeated Quinnipiac's Jennifer Lu and Layla Rodriguez 6-4 for the A doubles title. Ma and Wong defeated LIU's Sasha Bollweg and Jessica Brzozowska 7-6 (8-3) in the quarterfinals before falling to Quinnipiac's Jennifer Lu and Layla Rodriguez 6-4 in the semifinals.
In B singles,
Maia Balce defeated LIU's Ana Leonte 7-6, 6-2 in the round of 16, Hofstra's Sarah Catherine Herndon 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and Fairleigh Dickinson's Marta Ruszczynska 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals before falling to Hofstra's Alejandra Ruffini 6-3, 6-2 in the finals.
Carina Ma Wins A Doubles Title
In C singles,
Whitney Weisberg defeated Wagner's Rina Baynes 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and Hofstra's Meheq Khokhar 6-2, 6-3 (10-7) in the semifinals before dropping her finals match to Hofstra's Disha Yellayi 6-1, 6-1..
In B doubles, Balce and Sa defeated Hofstra's Jasmine King and Ronia Dolabany 6-3 in the quarterfinals before falling to Anna Grigoryan and Clemence Krug 6-2 in the semifinals.
In the B singles consolation bracket Insogna defeated Marist's Claire Schmitz 8-4 and Sa defeated Marist's Sam Galu 8-5 in the quarterfinals. Insogna went on to defeat Wagner's Vedika Anand 8-6 in the semis before defeating LIU's Ana Leonte 8-3 in the consolation finals. Sa fell to LIU's Leonte 8-1 in the semifinals.
The Rams will be back in action Monday, October 9, as they travel back to Hempstead, N.Y. to take on Hofstra at 3 p.m.
