Â
Bronx, N.Y.
- A schedule that features five home games on Jack Coffey Field, including a visit by nationally ranked Eastern Washington, and a road game at Army, highlights the eleven-game 2017 Fordham University football schedule released today.
Â
The 2017 season, Fordham's 117th of varsity football, will be the second for head coach
Andrew Breiner, who led the Rams to an 8-3 mark in his first campaign, the best record for a first-year Fordham head football coach in modern times.
Â
The 8-3 mark last year is the fourth straight winning season for the Rams, marking the first time the Rams have posted four consecutive winning campaigns since 1976-1979.
Â
Highlights of the 2017 schedule include a season-opening trip to Army West Point and a visit to Jack Coffey Field by national powerhouse, Eastern Washington University.
Â
The Rams open the season on Friday, September 1, as the Rams travel to West Point to face Army West Point in Michie Stadium. It will be the seventh meeting between Fordham and Army with the Black Knights winning the first five meetings before a 37-35 Fordham win in Michie Stadium in 2015.

On September 9 the Rams travel to New Britain, Conn., to take on Central Connecticut State University on Arute Field. It will be the first ever meeting between the Rams and the Blue Devils.
Â
The following week, September 16, the Rams will open their home schedule with a visit from Eastern Washington. The Eagles finished the 2016 season ranked fourth in the NCAA FCS. The game will be Fordham's first against a team from the Big Sky conference and the first time the Rams will play an opponent from west of the Mississippi River since they hosted the University of San Francisco at Triboro Stadium in 1951.
Â
Following the home opener, the Rams go back on the road, traveling to Smithfield, R.I., for a matchup with Bryant University from the Northeast Conference. It will be the third meeting between the Rams and the Bulldogs with each team winning once.
Â
Fordham closes out its non-conference slate on September 30 as Yale University pays a visit to Jack Coffey Field for the second straight year. The Rams have taken the past two meetings with the Bulldogs, including a 44-37 win on Jack Coffey Field last October.
Â
The Rams open Patriot League play on Saturday, October 7, with a trip to Easton, Penn., for a meeting with Lafayette College in Fisher Stadium. Fordham has won four of the past five meetings with the Leopards, including a 58-34 victory on Jack Coffey Field last fall.
Â
Fordham then travels up to Hamilton, N.Y., to take on Colgate University for a Patriot League contest on October 14. The Rams have taken three of the past four meetings with the Raiders, including a 24-20 win on Jack Coffey Field last fall.
Â
The Rams stay on the road with a bus ride down to the nation's capital, Washington, D.C., for a league game with Georgetown University on October 14. It will be the 60th meeting between the Rams and the Hoyas with Fordham, who has won the past five matchups, leading the all-time series, 36-20-3.
Â
The Rams return to Jack Coffey Field the following to week to host the defending Patriot League champions, Lehigh University, on Saturday, October 28, for Family Weekend. The Rams, who have won three of the past four meetings with the Mountain Hawks, will look to avenge last year's lone league loss.
Â
The following week, the Rams host Holy Cross for the annual Ram-Crusader Cup Game on Saturday, November 4, which will also be Homecoming Weekend at Rose Hill. The game will mark the 55th meeting between the Rams and the Crusaders. Fordham has taken the past five matchups with their fellow Jesuit institution, including a 54-14 win last November at Yankee Stadium.
Â
After a bye week, the Rams close out the regular season with a visit from Bucknell University on November 18. The Rams have taken the past four meetings with the Bison, including a 36-22 win in Lewisburg, Penn., last November.
Â
The Rams will be led into the 2017 season by 2016 consensus All-American, running back
Chase Edmonds. Last fall, Edmonds finished fourth in voting for the 2016 Walter Payton Award. Presented to the NCAA FCS offensive player of the year. Edmonds led the NCAA FCS in rushing yards per game (163.5) and was second in total rushing yards as well as ranking second in all-purpose yards per game (194.6) and third in rushing touchdowns. The 1,799 yards was just 39 yards shy of Edmonds' school single season record set in 2014.
