Newport News, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its weekly men's soccer awards this afternoon with two Rams being honored. Sophomore
Janos Loebe (Kierspe, Germany) was named Offensive Player of the Week, while fellow sophomore
Rashid Nuhu (Accra, Ghana) was selected as the co-Defensive Player of the Week. These weekly awards are the first for the Rams this season.
After being kept off the scoresheet for the first six games of the season, Loebe got on the board on Saturday, netting a goal and an assist in a win at Stetson. He got the Rams on the board in the 34
th minute with his first goal of the season, and then assisted on the game-winning goal in the 73
rd minute, which was scored by his brother,
Jannik Loebe.
It marked the second time that the Loebe brothers have scored in the same game, the previous time coming against La Salle last season (10/3/15).
Nuhu was in goal for both games last week, going 1-0-1. He posted his first shutout of the season on Wednesday with four saves against Manhattan, and then had three stops in a win over Stetson on Saturday.
Loebe, Nuhu, and the rest of the Fordham men's soccer team will be back on the pitch this Friday, when the Rams host Columbia at Jack Coffey Field, beginning at 5:00 PM. At halftime of the game, members of Fordham's 1996 Atlantic 10 men's soccer championship will be recognized as they celebrate the 20
th anniversary of Fordham's first Atlantic 10 title.
