Throughout the course of every season, Fordham student-athletes are constantly looking for new ways to follow the Jesuit tradition of
cura personalis, being a person for others. Whether it's being there for a teammate, helping in the local Bronx community, or taking on a new challenge outside the New York City area, Fordham student-athletes have always stepped up to help those in need.
The newest challenge for three members of the Fordham men's soccer team: climb Mount Fuji in an effort to raise funds for the fight against Juvenile (Type 1) Diabetes.
Christopher Bazzini,
Mateo Gowland and
Tetsu Tonegawa are headed to Japan to climb Mount Fuji in an effort to raise funds for
Team JDRF in the fight against Juvenile (Type 1) Diabetes. Bazzini's sister, Daniela, has Type 1 Diabetes and the trio of Rams is seeking to raise at least $2,500 to help her fight.
"Our staff is very proud of Chris, Tetsu, and Mateo," said men's soccer head coach
Jim McElderry. "They have organized all of this on their own, with a great cause and reason for it all. I cannot wait to hear about the trip and all of the good that it does."
The group departs from Kennedy Airport on Thursday, July 21 for Tokyo, Japan, and will be staying with Tetsu's grandmother in Shizuoka, Japan.
On Sunday, July 24, they will head to Mount Fuji and climb the Gotemba trail, stopping overnight to rest before completing the journey early Monday morning to see the sunrise.
