Volleyball Adds Two to Recruiting Class

Morgan Williams and Maddy Walsh to Join Rams Next Season

Fordham volleyball head coach Gini Ullery announced the addition of Morgan Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) and Maddy Walsh (Arlington, Texas/Lamar (St. Mary's (TX))) to this year's recruiting class today.

"Morgan and Maddy compliment what we are doing here at Fordham and I am excited to have them apart of our program," said Ullery.

They join Elise Benjamin (Desoto, Texas/Desoto), Olivia Fairchild (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista), and Kaitlin Morley (Westlake Village, Calif./Louisville HS) as newcomers for next season.

A defensive specialist and libero, Williams played varsity volleyball and beach volleyball at Marymount High School.  She helped Marymount to the Mission League Championship in each of the last two years, notching a team-high 34 service aces in 2016.  She earned the team's Most Valuable Senior Award during her final season, after receiving the Coach's Award as a sophomore.  For club volleyball, Williams plays for SG Elite 18 Roshambo, which is currently ranked 13th in the SCVA.

Away from the court, Williams, who has a sister, Ashlie, that plays volleyball at Georgetown, has received Academic Achievement Awards in English, Spanish, Theology, Math, and History, while being a three-year Academic Excellence honoree for the California State Federation.

"We are excited to add Morgan to our class of 2020. She is super quick, smart and brings an energy and passion for the game that is exactly what we are working towards as a program," said Ullery.

Walsh, a 5-9 setter, comes to Fordham after spending a season at St. Mary's University in Texas.  In her one season with the Rattlers, she started 13 of 20 matches, averaging 5.35 assists and 2.07 digs per set, and was named to the Dean's List.

Prior to St. Mary's, she was a three-year varsity volleyball player at Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas.  A two-year captain, she claimed the Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore and the District Newcomer of the Year that same season.  She earned All-District honors in each of her final three seasons, receiving First Team honors in 2012 and 2014.  In the classroom, Walsh was a two-time District Academic All-Star and a member of the National and German Honor Societies.

In addition to her time at Lamar, Walsh played club volleyball for Texas Advantage, the No. 1-ranked volleyball club in the nation, on the 17's and 18's.

"Maddy is a competitor with a high volleyball IQ. Not only is she a hard worker she is the type of kid that will be the first in the gym and the last out," said Ullery.
