Seeding Announced for 2016 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship

Fordham Seeded Fifth at Tournament; Will Play #4 Seed Saint Louis at 5:00 PM on Wednesday

Newport News, Va. - Seeding for the 2016 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship was announced on Saturday following the conclusion of regular season, and Rhode Island will be the top seed as the regular season champion. The Rams lead a field of seven conference teams that qualified for the double-elimination tournament, which beings Wednesday at Fordham's Houlihan Park.

The Friday semifinals and Saturday finals will air live on television on the American Sports Network (ASN). Every game of the championship will also be available online on the A-10 Network. The winner will receive the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.

As the No. 1 seed, URI earns a bye into the second round of the championship and will face the winner of No. 4 Saint Louis and No. 5 Fordham at 5:00 pm on Wednesday.

Defending A-10 champion VCU is seeded second and will face seventh-seeded George Washington at 1:30 pm Wednesday.

Third-seeded Saint Joseph's will play No. 6 Davidson Wednesday in the championship opener at 10:00 am. The Hawks finished tied with Saint Louis at 15-9, with an overall record of 29-21. SJU wins the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Billikens as a result of a 2-1 record in the regular season series. Davidson, which was 11-11 in league play, tied with GW with a .500 record. The Wildcats, which were 25-24 overall, won the season series with George Washington to win the tiebreaker and secure the No. 6 seed.

The championship will also feature a free youth clinic Saturday morning. All Little Leaguers, youth baseball teams and players are welcome. Admission is free to the clinic and includes a complimentary mini bat and game ticket for the child. Additional tickets for parents, family, non-participants must be purchased upon entry to the game. Tickets for the championship begin at $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children under 18 and senior citizens. Tickets are available on site at Houlihan Park or by contacting the Fordham ticket office.
