Box ScoreBronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University men's tennis squad continued its winning ways today, defeating Rider University, 5-2, on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts, the Rams' sixth straight win.
The match opened slowly for Fordham, who dropped the doubles point, losing two of three doubles matches.
Tomas Cosmai and
Joseph Kavaloski opened things for the Rams by defeating Brandon Gildea and Chris Popso at first doubles, 6-2, but
Victor Li and
Nick Borak fell to Diego Delgado and Matthew Begley at the second spot, 6-1. Rider took the doubles point when Jeremy Van Herwarde and Ryan Ciaccio upended
Cameron Posillico and
Pedro Alonso at third doubles.
But Fordham turned things around in singles action, winning five of the six matches. Cosmai got things started with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Delgado at first singles and then Li gave Fordham a 2-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Popso at the second position.
Borak bested Van Herwarde at third singles, 6-3, 6-2, and then Posillico clinched the match for the Rams with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Gildea at fourth singles.
Joseph Kavaloski accounted for the other Fordham point with a 6-3 (7-2), 7-6 win over Agaazi Berhane at sixth singles.
The Rams return to action on Thursday, April 7, as they travel to West Point, N.Y., to face the University of Hartford at 11:00 AM.
