Women’s Tennis Blanks Queens, 7-0

Queens, N.Y. – The Fordham University women's tennis squad closed out its regular season today on a high note, defeating Queens College, ranked 21st in the country and second in the East, 7-0, the Rams' third win over the past four matches.
 
Fordham opened the match taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. Alexis Zobeideh and Destiny Grunin got things started with a 6-1 win over Nakia Miller and Anne Starting at third doubles and then Mayu Sato and Estelle Wong clinched the point for the Rams with a 6-2 decision over Angelika Sobiecka and Line Sorsdahl Aasen at first doubles.
 
Fordham then swept all six singles matches, four in straight sets, for the 7-0 win. Destiny Grunin picked up the first singles win for the Rams with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Frederike Börner at fourth singles and Gianna Insogna gave Fordham a 3-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Line Sorsdahl Aasen at the sixth spot.
 
Alexis Zobeideh's 6-3, 6-3 win over Cami Abdallah at third singles clinched the match for the Rams. Whitney Weisberg then defeated Nakia Miller at the sixth spot, 6-4, 6-2, Estelle Wong took down Angelika Sobiecka at second singles, 4-6, 6-4, 10-1, and Mayu Sato made it a clean sweep for Fordham with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 win at first singles over Andrea Samson.
 
The Rams close out the season at the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championships which begin on Thursday, April 21, as the Rams, seeded eighth, face ninth-seeded Dayton at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
