Philadelphia, Pa. – The Fordham rowing squad traveled to Philadelphia on Saturday to compete in the 2016 Kerr Cup on the Schuylkill River where the varsity 8 was the top finisher, placing second.

The Fordham varsity 8 won its heat in 6:42.09, five seconds in front of Lehigh and ahead of Washington College, Fairfield and Stetson, to advance to the grand final. In the finals, the Rams were edged by Temple, finishing in 6:37.63, just 1.47 seconds behind the Owls. The Rams beat Drexel, Saint Joseph's, Army West Point and Lehigh to the line.

The second varsity 8 also moved to the grand final with a win in its heat in a time of 6:53.34, over five seconds faster than Drexel and well in front of Lehigh, Fairfield and Stetson. In the finals, Fordham placed third, just 0.15 seconds behind second place Saint Joseph's and 2.63 seconds behind the winner, Temple, but in front of Drexel, Marist and Lehigh.

The varsity 4 advanced to the grand final with a win in its heat, covering the course in 7:38.89, just under a second in front of Temple and ahead of Army West Point Loyola and Fairfield. But in the finals the Rams placed fifth, in front of Saint Joseph's B but behind Drexel, Lafayette, Temple and Saint Joseph's A.

The Fordham novice 4 also won its heat in a time of 8:21.61, beating Rutgers Camden, NY Maritime and St. Mary's to advance to the grand final where the Rams placed third behind Villanova and Temple but ahead of Army West Point, NYU and Rutgers Camden.

The Rams also raced a second varsity 4 and a novice 8. The second varsity 4 placed third behind Temple and Saint Joseph's but in front of Drexel while the novice 8 was third in its heat, behind Temple and Fairfield.

The Fordham crew returns to action on Sunday, April 24, as they compete at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Penn.
