Women’s Tennis Blanks NYIT, 4-0

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham women's tennis team celebrated Alumni Day on Saturday with a 4-0 win over NYIT on the Hawthorn Rooney Courts.
 
Playing shorthanded, NYIT was forced to default at third doubles and Mayu Sato and Estelle Wong clinched the doubles point for the Rams with a 6-4 win at first doubles.
 
In the other doubles match Destiny Grunin and Alexis Zobeideh fell, 7-5, at the second position
 
In singles play, the Rams won the sixth spot by default and then took a 3-0 lead when Grunin won at fourth singles, 6-3, 6-1. Wong then clinched the match for the Rams with a 6-1, 7-6 win at second singles.
 
In unfinished matches, Sato won the first set at first singles, 6-4, and led the second, 4-3, when the match was halted while Gianna Insogna won the first set at fifth singles, 6-3, and was down 5-6 in the second and Zobeideh dropped the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6, and was trailing in the second, 1-3, when the match was halted.
 
The Rams return to action on Sunday, April 17, as they host the University of Massachusetts on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 3:00 PM.
