Women's Tennis Swept by St. John's

Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham women's tennis team was swept by St. John's on Wednesday afternoon, 7-0, at the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts. With the loss, the Rams fall to 9-5 on the season, while the Red Storm improves to 12-4 overall.
 
New York neighbors St. John's got started with a 6-2 victory in the first doubles match between Natallia Vavulina and Anna Morozova and Fordham's Mayu Sato and Estelle Wong. The freshman tandem of Gianna Insogna and Whitney Weisberg dropped a 6-3 match to Stephanie Elgegren and Delia Arranz, before Jaide Collins and Zofia Stanisz defeated Alexis Zobeideh and Destiny Grunin, 6-4.
 
Arran saw Weisberg again in singles play and the former was victorious, 6-3, 6-1, at the fifth position for the day's first complete singles bout. Vavulina down Wong, 6-1, 6-1, and Olaya Inclan clinched the match for the Red Storm with a 6-3, 6-3, win over Grunin. Elsewhere, Collins defeated Insogna, 6-4, 6-4, Sato fell to Morozova, 7-5, 6-2, and Irina Preotescu grinded out a 7-6 (7-0), 6-2 result over Zobeideh.
 
The Rams travel to Hofstra tomorrow, Thursday, April 14, for the team's second-to-last road contest of the season. The match against the Pride is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
