Lindsay Mayer Named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week

The Junior Enjoyed a Tremendous Two-Way Week Over Six Contests

Release

Newport News, Va. – The Fordham softball team is once again represented in the Atlantic 10's weekly awards and, again, the recipient garnered her first honor. Junior Lindsay Mayer earned A-10 Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday, after an incredible two-way week in which Mayer compiled at least one hit in all six contests and either a win or a save while making an appearance in the circle in all six contests.

The award is Fordham's 10th of the year and Mayer is the sixth different recipient.

Lindsay Mayer was a force at the plate batting .632 over the six contests (12-for-19) with one home run, two doubles, seven RBIs, three runs, and two walks. In the circle, Mayer made six appearances and compiled a 4-0 record, two saves, and a 2.47 ERA in 17 innings with just six earned runs allowed on 14 hits, while striking out 11.

Fordham hosted Lehigh in a one-off nonconference contest last Tuesday afternoon, hosted St. Bonaventure in an A-10 doubleheader on Wednesday, and traveled to Washington, D.C. to face George Washington in a three-game set. The Rams won all six contests and Mayer played a major role, both in the circle and at the plate.

Against Lehigh, the junior collected just one hit in two at bats but earned her first career save with two no-hit innings, allowing a walk and striking out three. Wednesday's twinbill against the visiting Bonnies was extremely dramatic, with two extra inning walk-off Fordham wins, and Mayer earned the win in both contests while also batting 6-for-7 on the day with three clutch runs driven in. Her sixth-inning RBI single to score Sydney Canessa tied the game up at two apiece, a score that would hold until a crazy ninth inning. Similarly, in game two, Mayer hit a drifting single down the right field line that allowed Amy Van Hoven to score the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh. Mayer also drove in Van Hoven with another single earlier in the game to knot the score up at 3-3.

Mayer replaced Lauren Quense after eight innings in game one but walked the first batter she faced. The next hitter bunted her over and a bloop single gave St. Bonaventure the lead. An error by Jessica Hughes at second base caused another run to score and the eventual comeback gave Mayer her first career win. In game two, Mayer replaced Quense after four innings and allowed just two runs, one each in the seventh and eighth, on five hits while striking out a pair. Allie Bradian's walk-off two-run dinger gave Mayer her second career victory and second of the day.

At George Washington, Mayer notched five more hits in 10 at bats with one home run and four RBIs, three of which came in Fordham's 3-1 victory over the colonials on Saturday, with, as the score suggests,  Mayer driving in all three Rams runs. Mayer's single in the first gave the Rams a temporary lead, scoring Canessa, and her two-run double in the fifth powered Fordham to the series-opening win. The Lincoln, R.I. native got career save number two with three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, no walks, and punching out three.

Mayer's solo shot in the first inning of game two was part of a two-run inning and was her only hit in the game. In game two, Mayer tallied two more singles and a double, scoring one run. The junior again took the mound in game one in the fifth inning, allowing a quick run to score, before a clean sixth inning. In the seventh, Mayer allowed two runs to score to tie the game up at six, but fired two near-perfect innings in the eighth and ninth as the Rams' offense paved the way for another extra-inning win and Mayer's fourth win of the year. Win number five came in game two when Mayer entered in the fifth inning of a 2-2 contest. The junior tossed two one-hit innings and Fordham's offense exploded for eight runs late in the game to give the team its 27
