Joseph Chartouny was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for games played from February 29-March 5, it was announced today. The award is the second straight and seventh overall rookie of the week honor for Chartouny.
The seven Atlantic 10 weekly honors are a school record, surpassing Bryant Dunston who won the award six times as a rookie in 2004-2005.
In two Fordham wins on the week, Chartouny averaged 13.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 8.0 assists/game while also recording four steals. His best effort was a 13-point, nine-assists, four-rebound game in a 64-61 win over Rhode Island on Saturday in front of a sold out Rose Hill Gym crowd.
In the other game on the week, Chartouny netted 13 points and added seven assists and three rebounds in a 78-69 win at Duquesne on Wednesday.
On the season, Chartouny is averaging 11.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 6.2 assists/game. He leads the Atlantic 10, and is 21st in the NCAA, in assists/game while he also ranks second in the conference in steals/game (2.1) and fifth in assist/turnover ratio (2.3). His 148 assists on the season is a Fordham freshman record while his 6.2 apg average leads all NCAA Division I freshmen.
Fordham, who finished the regular season with a 17-12 overall record, 8-10 in the Atlantic 10, opens play at the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship on Thursday as the eighth-seeded Rams face the ninth-seeded Richmond Spiders at Noon in the Barclays Center. The 17 wins and eight conference wins are the most for the Rams since the 2006-2007 season.
