Malvern, Pa. – The Fordham golf squad closed out its first match of the spring season by placing in a tie for ninth at the 2016 Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Villanova University, at the White Manor Country Club.

After carding a 302 in the first round on Monday, Fordham shot a 303 today for a 6-5 total, tying the Rams with Detroit, Colgate and Bucknell for ninth place, 12 strokes behind event winner Cleveland State.

Leading the way for the Rams was
Thomas Hayes, who shot a two-over 73 today to bring his two-day total to 149, tying him for 14th overall. He recorded five birdies on day two, three on the front nine, and tied for the team-high nine at the invitational.

Matt Schiller carded a three-over 74 today while
Joseph Trim shot a 77 today as each finished the tournament at 152, tied for 37th overall. Schiller recorded seven birdies on the day, including each of the last three holes, to bring his tournament total to nine, while Trim had five.

James Mongey shot a 78 on day two for a two-day score of 153, tied for 52nd.

Oscar Cabanas, competing as an independent, carded a two-day score of 155, tying him for 62nd.

The Rams return to action on Sunday and Monday, April 3 and 4, as they compete at the The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Lafayette, at the Silver Creek CC in Hellertown, Pa.
