Box ScoreBronx, N.Y. – The Fordham University women's tennis squad hosted Albany on Saturday where the Great Danes handed the Rams a 5-2 loss on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts. The defeat snaps a five-match win streak for the Rams and moves them to 7-3 on the season.
The match opened with Albany taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. Fordham's
Mayu Sato and
Estelle Wong took first doubles from Paulina Torres and Dajana Ognjenovic, 7-6 (7-3) but
Hannah Drayton and
Gianna Insogna dropped second doubles to Alba Sala and Isadora Pejovic, 6-2, and
Alexis Zobeideh and
Destiny Grunin fell to Chassidy King and Jovana Kenic, 6-2.
In singles play, the Rams took first and second singles in straight sets. Wong was victorious over Torres at first singles, 6-1, 6-4 while Sato took second singles from Ognjenovic, 6-2, 6-2. But Fordham dropped the other four singles matches in straight sets.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday, March 30, as they travel to Teaneck, N.J., to face FDU at 1:00 p.m.
