Sydney Canessa Named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Fordham softball standout Sydney Canessa was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league.

Canessa, an outfielder from Wall, N.J., hit safely in all five games at the Diamond 9 Citrus II Classic in Orlando, where the Rams finished 4-1. She hit .667 with an on-base percentage of .706 and a slugging percentage of 1.400, going 10-for-15 with six runs, two doubles, three home runs, six RBI and a stolen base. In the 3-0 win over North Florida, Canessa hit her second home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field fence. In the win over Morgan State, Canessa hit her third home run of the season, and against Charlotte, Canessa finished 4-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, three runs and a stolen base, as Fordham rallied for a 10-5 victory.
