Atlantic 10 Release Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham University freshman guard
Joseph Chartouny was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for games played from February 22-28, it was announced today. The award is the sixth overall rookie of the week honor for Chartouny.
The six Atlantic 10 weekly honors ties Chartouny with Bryant Dunston (2004-2005) for the most single season awards in school history.
In two Fordham wins on the week, Chartouny averaged 17.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 8.5 assists/game while also recording six steals. His best effort was a 24-point, 13-assists, both season-highs, effort in a 91-82 win over Davidson on Saturday in the Rose Hill Gym. The 24 points surpassed his season-best of 21 set against Maine while the 13 assists are the most since he dished out eleven versus St. Bonaventure.
In Fordham's other game on the week, Chartouny scored eleven points and added four rebounds and four assists in a win at La Salle on Wednesday night.
On the year, Chartouny is averaging 10.8 ppg and 5.7 rpg while recording a team-high 132 assists to go with 47 steals. The 132 assists is a Fordham freshman record, bettering the mark of 130 set by Jean Prioleau in 1987-1988. He leads the Atlantic 10 in assists (6.0/game) and is third in steals (2.1/game) while also ranking fourth in assist/turnover ratio (2.3). Nationally, Chartouny is ranked 22nd in the NCAA Div. I in both assists/game and steals/game.
The Rams, 15-12 overall on the year, 6-10 in the Atlantic 10, return to action on Wednesday night, March 2, as they travel to Pittsburgh to face the Duquesne University Dukes in an Atlantic 10 contest in the A.J. Palumbo Center at 7:00 p.m.
