Men's Golf's Conference Prediction Released by Atlantic 10

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Fordham men's golf team has been selected to finish in 11th place in the Atlantic 10 this spring, it was announced Friday by the league ahead of the start of A-10 Match play, which begins Monday, Feb. 22.

VCU was picked to repeat as conference champions, after garnering all 11 first-place votes in the poll, which was conducted among the league's head golf coaches. The Rams won the 2014 and 2015 A-10 titles and will be looking for a three-peat this spring.

Rhode Island was picked to finish third with 94 points, just ahead of Dayton with 90 points. Davidson, which tallied 83 points, was picked fifth, followed by George Mason at sixth (65 points), George Washington at seventh (47 points) and La Salle (39 points). Saint Joseph's, St. Bonaventure and the Rams rounded out the poll, respectively.

Fordham was not selected to participate in Monday's match play event based on the final Fall Golfstat rankings, as only the top eight teams were invited.

The Atlantic 10 men's golf championship begins Friday, April 29 at The Villas at Grand Cypress in Orlando, Fla. The 11 A-10 golf teams will play 18 holes per day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Practice rounds are slated for Thursday. Admission to the Atlantic 10 Golf Championship is free. The winner of the 54-hole event will receive the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.

The Rams are coming off a fall season that saw them participate in five tournaments, with their best finish coming at Central Connecticut's Ryan Lee Memorial Tournament when they finished in a fourth-place tie (out of 12 teams) in the season-opening 36-hole event. Over the fall, sophomore Matt Schiller recorded the best average with a 74.8 and twice shot 70, which was the two lowest rounds of anyone on the team.

Fordham begins the spring season March 28-29 at Villanova's Wildcat Invitational, as the 36-hole tournament will be played at the Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa.
