Box ScoreNEWARK – The Fordham women's tennis team earned its second victory of the spring with a 5-2 decision over the NJIT Highlanders on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Rams improve to 2-1 on the year, while the Highlanders fall to 3-2 overall.

Fordham grabbed the all-important doubles point, 2-1. Juniors
Mayu Sato and
Hannah Drayton took down the duo of Nathalie Habegger and Natilja Tasovac, 6-2, before NJIT's Rafaella Sampaio and Amanda Helminsky evened things up, 6-4, against
Estelle Wong and
Gianna Insogna. It came down to the tiebreaker and Fordham's
Destiny Grunin and
Alexis Zobeideh answered the challenge with a 6-4 win.

Fordham rattled off two straight singles victories to put the team on the precipice of victory when Drayton defeated #3 singles opponent Ines Vujkovac, 6-2, 6-4, and Wong took down Habegger, 6-4, 6-3, in #1 singles. The win makes it six straight for Wong in singles action.

NJIT's Alba Rosas Garcia defeated Zobeideh, 6-4, 6-4, in #4 singles, to give the hosts a shot but Sato clinched the match with a three-set victory over Sampaio, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, in #2 singles.

Rounding things out were one three-set win for each school in #5 and #6 singles, respectively. Grunin defeated Helminsky, 2-6, 6-0, 10-6, first before Insogna fell to Tasovac, 4-6, 6-4, 12-10.

The Rams are back in action in two weeks when they travel up to West Point, N.Y. to take on both hosts Army and visiting Marist over two days. Matches will begin on Saturday, February 27, at 10 a.m.
