ResultsBOSTON – The Fordham women's track team participated in six different events during day one of the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University, on Friday. There was just one top-10 finish but there were two more ECAC qualifications and seven new career-best times among the 10 Rams competing.
Â
Highlights on the day included
Shanna Heaney and
Danielle Rowe each earning an ECAC berth, in the 1,000 meter and 800 meter, respectively. Both runners have now qualified in four different competitions.
Â
Rowe topped Rams runners in the 800 meter with her 2:14.07 time and 37
th-place finish. However, her three teammates weren't far behind and all three set new personal-best times:
Kate McCormack (46
th – 2:14.92),
Merissa Wright (53
rd – 2:15.30), and
Leah Hickey (88
th – 2:20.29). McCormack missed an ECAC time by under a second.
Â
Aidan Moroz and
Christina Perrier ran in the 500 meter and the former nearly cracked the top-10, settling for 12
th, in 1:17.15. Perrier finished 34
th in 1:20.79. Both times were career-bests. The mile was next and two Fordham runners competed –
Brianna Tevnan placed 80
th with a time of 5:11.17 and
Brynna Harum set a new personal record with her 5:15.13 time and 109
th-place finish.
Â
Just one runner in each of the next two competitions but both definitely impressed; freshman
Morgan Menzzasalma ran a career-best 26.01 time in the 200 meter dash, good for 87
th overall, and notched the second-best time of any runner this season. Meanwhile, Heaney ran the 1,000 meter for just the second time this season and crossed in 18
th place with an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:53.98.
Â
Fordham rounded the day out with its lone top-10 finish in the 4x400 meter relay. The Rams' 'A' team of Menzzasalma, Wright, Moroz, and Rowe just missed an ECAC time by one second with a 3:52.63 time. Fordham's 'B' team of Perrier, McCormack, Heaney, and Hickey finished 29
th overall in 4:02.13.
Â
For Rowe and Heaney, their regional qualifications mark their fourth of the season. Both have competed together in the distance medley Relay and the 4x800 relay, while Rowe also qualified in the 500 meter and Heaney in the 800 meter. In fact, Heaney notched back-to-back qualifying times in the 800 meter during the last two meets.
