Newport News, Va. – Fordham women's basketball freshman standout
Kate Kreslina has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon. Kreslina scored a career-high 19 points and hit several clutch shots down the stretch of a tight 57-55 win over Princeton on Saturday afternoon to help the Rams rebound from a midweek loss at Iona.

The redshirt freshman struggled in New Rochelle, N.Y. last Wednesday afternoon, finishing with six points and four rebounds in 24 minutes, the second-lowest total of her season, but bounced back in a huge way on Saturday with her most efficient and high-scoring games of her young career. Against the Tigers, Kreslina flourished with 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-3 from downtown, to go with three rebounds in 31 minutes. The Latvian guard scored six of the team's 10 points in the fourth quarter, including a 4-of-6 mark from the charity stripe down the stretch.
Kreslina has started all 10 games this season to start her career and is second on the team with averages of 9.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. She's also third on the team with 18 assists. The redshirt freshman is shooting 41.9% from the field (31-of-74) and 33.3% (11-of-33) from downtown, while averaging 28.8 minutes per game. Kreslina is also one of the A-10's top free throw shooters, hitting 22-of-26 on the season (84.6%).
Fordham hosts St. John's tomorrow night inside the Rose Hill Gym at 7 p.m.
