Men's Basketball Picks Up First Win of Year

Rams down NYIT, 101-75, behind Joseph Chartouny's double-double

Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham University sophomore guard Joseph Chartouny may hail from Montreal but he has found a home in the Rose Hill Gym as he notched his third career double-double in the historic building with 17 points and 14 assists to lead the Rams to a 101-75 win over NYIT on Monday.

With the win, Fordham evens its record at 1-1 while NYIT falls to 1-2.

The game marked the first time the Rams scored 100 points or more in a game since 2010 (a 111-100 loss at Duquesne) and the first time the Rams scored 100 or more points in a win since a 110-73 victory over Siena in 1999.

The 14 assists are a career-high for Chartouny, who shot 7-for-11 from the field and added four steals.

Chartouny was one of six Rams to nets double figures, including all five starters, led by graduate transfer Javontae Hawkins with 18 points while junior Will Tavares finished with 13 points, shooting 3-for-4 from behind the arc, and redshirt junior Antwoine Anderson added 13 points and five assists.

The Rams started out slowly, leading by just seven at the half, 42-35. The Bears cut that lead to five four minutes into the second half, 48-43, on a Jeffrey Hayden layup but the Rams then went on a 12-4 run to take a 60-47 lead when Anderson hit a driving layup with 12:59 remaining.

NYIT was able to get the Fordham advantage back to seven, 64-57, with 9:28 on the clock but Fordham outscored the Bears 18-4 over the next three minutes to take a commanding 82-61 lead with 6:08 left and the lead wouldn't drop below 19 the rest of the way.

Junior Christian Sengfelder and sophomore Jesse Bunting each finished with 12 points and seven rebounds for Fordham.

The Rams return to action on Friday, November 18, as they open play for the first of three straight days by hosting FDU at 6:00 p.m. That game will be followed by Saint Peter's versus Lipscomb at 8:30 p.m.

Notes
Chartouny's previous career-high for assists was 13, set against Davidson last year.

The Rams made 13 three-pointers in the game, two shy of the school record, while attempting a school-record 34 long distance shots.

The win was Fordham's 1,496 all-time win.

Fordham forced NYIT into 24 turnovers.

All 15 Rams who dressed tonight saw action in the game.

Fordham has taken both meetings with NYIT.
