Women's Tennis Competes at Lehigh Invitational

Bethleham, Pa. - The Fordham University women's tennis team continued its 2016 fall season this weekend by participating at the Lehigh Invitational where Estelle Wong won the #2 singles flight, Gianna Insogna won the 2nd singles flight and Destiny Grunin won the #4 singles flight.

Wong started play in #1 singles with an 8-4 win over Bucknell's Michele Urbinati. She then defeated Lehigh's Christina Auyeung 8-6 in the semifinals before defeating her teammate Mayu Sato 6-4, 6-4 in the finals. Sato defeated Layfayette's Grace Conrad 8-3 in the first round and Lehigh's Sibel Can 8-5 in the semifinals before falling to Wong in the finals.

Insogna started #2 singles play with an 8-4 win over Bucknell's Paige Leavy in the first round and then beat Lehigh's Grace Lin 8-5 in the semifinals. Insogna beat Ram teammate Carina Ma 6-3, 6-1 in the finals for the singles two title. Ma defeated Bucknell's Mishi Papich 8-2 in the first round and then beat Lehigh's Briana Maravich 8-3 before falling to Insogna in the finals.

In #3 singles play, Maia Balce defeated Lehigh's Jamie Campisi 8-6 in the first round and then beat Lafayette's Lauren Tracy 8-0 in the semifinals before falling to Lehigh's Cassidy Cruz 3-6, 7-5, 10-1 in the finals. Also competing in #3 singles play, Alexis Zobeideh defeated Bucknell's Jill Auteri 8-2 in the first round before falling to Cruz 8-5 in the semifinals.

In #4 singles play, Grunin defeated Lafayette's Haley Matthis 8-0 in the quarterfinals, beat Bucknell's Melissa Parks 8-1 in the semifinals, before defeating Lehigh's Kirstin Godau 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the finals for the singles four title. Also competing in #4 singles play, Whitney Weisberg defeated Bucknell's Danielle Gannon 8-3 before falling to Godau 8-3 in the semifinals. Carolina Sa won the #4 singles consolation finals with an 8-2 win over Lafayette's Meredith Block.

In doubles play, Estelle Wong and Mayu Sato won the #1 doubles flight with a 6-0 win over Lehigh's Briana Maravich and Cassidy Cruz in the first round and a 6-2 win over Lehigh's Sibel Can and Grace Lin in the semifinals before defeating Lehigh's Christina Auyeung and Jamie Campisi 6-1 in the finals. Also competing in #2 doubles, Carina Ma and Maia Balce defeated Lafayette's Rocine Moschella and Tori Almeida 6-0 in the first round before falling to Auyeung and Campisi 6-1 in the semifinals. Alexis Zobeideh and Destiny Grunin advanced to the #1 doubles finals.

In #2 doubles play, Whitney Weisberg and Gianna Insogna defeated Lafayette's Grace Conrad and Meredith Block 6-3 in the semifinals before falling to Lehigh's Kirstin Godau and Leigh Friedman 6-2 in the finals.

The Rams return to action on October 15 when they host Seton Hall in a dual match at 12 p.m.
