Fordham Women's Rowing is already thinking about warmer temperature and spring racing after having recently returned from their annual winter training trip to Miami Beach, FL. 49 athletes, from both varsity and novice squads, and their three coaches went on the trip, training out of Miami Beach Rowing Club, staying in hotels right on the beach overlooking the ocean.
Â
"This was our 24
th consecutive year with a winter training trip to Miami Beach, Florida. We made tremendous progress in the limited time we had and logged more miles on the water per day than any other winter trip" said Head Coach
Ted Bonanno.
Â
Madison FlotteronThe trip's focus is to further the development of the athletes through guided coached instruction and rigorous workouts. For the seven days the team is in Miami Beach, they practice twice a day on the water and occasionally will have an additional strength training workout on the agenda. On average, the team would row 40k per day over the course of two sessions.
Â
"Being able to row in January was great because we normally don't have the opportunity to be out on the water" said freshman
Madison Flotteron. Flotteron is part of the class of 2019, the largest recruiting class in program history.Â
Â
"There was great energy in the camp throughout the week. We were determined to make the most out of each session" senior and co-captain
Fiona Murtagh said. "It was really motivating to be around teammates who were willing to and did push themselves that much further with every stroke they took. I'm excited to see what lies ahead this year."
Â
The Rams will kick off their spring season on April 2
nd with appearances at both the San Diego Crew Classic in San Diego, CA and the Murphy Cup in Camden, NJ.
Â
"We are all looking forward to a great spring season and know our training in Miami has been significant in both team building and our technical development" said Bonanno.
