Former NBA player/head coach to receive Johnny Bach Award

Bronx, N.Y. (September 30, 2015) – Former NBA player and head coach Doug Collins, a member of the 1972 U.S. Olympic Team, will be honored at the 2015 Fordham Men's Basketball Tip-Off Dinner on Wednesday, November 4, at Tognino Hall in the Duane Library on Fordham's Rose Hill Campus.

Tickets are available by calling Ryan Kirwan at 646-312-8223 or emailing rkirwan1@fordham.edu. Tickets can also be purchased online by clicking here. Cocktails will be served starting at 6:00 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m.

Collins will receive the Johnny Bach Award, presented annually at the Tip Off Dinner in honor of former Fordham head coach and Hall of Famer, Johnny Bach, who served as an assistant coach to Collins in both Chicago and Washington. The award was established by Fordham to annually honor an individual who has had a substantial and lasting impact on the sport of basketball and who best emulates Bach's drive and passion for excellence.

A 1948 graduate of Fordham, Bach is considered one of the sport's leading coaches. A defensive specialist, he was credited with helping the Chicago Bulls to three straight NBA championships. He has the most wins of any coach in the history of Fordham (263-193), and he led the Fordham Rams to five NIT appearances and a pair of NCAA berths during 18 seasons.

Following the 1972 Olympics, Collins was the number one overall pick in the 1973 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. In 1986 he took over as head coach of the Chicago Bulls, a team that featured Michael Jordan and Scottie Pipen, and he would also serve as head coach for the Detroit Pistons, Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers.

Collins will be the fourth recipient of the award, joining Patrick Ewing (2012), P.J. Carlesimo (2013) and Phil Jackson (2014).
