Rams Lend a Hand to New Students

Bronx, N.Y. - Some of them had practice in the morning and others had the day "off". But that didn't stop some Fordham University student-athletes from spending part of their Sunday morning standing at the ready outside of the various dorms, helping the incoming freshmen unload their vehicles.  In what has become an annual event for the Rams, the student-athletes came to the aid of the Office of Residential Life and New Student Orientation by lending a hand to make Opening Day run smoothly.

"The New Student Orientation team does a tremendous job in organizing and carrying out Opening Day," said Fordham head coach Joe Moorhead. "We are happy to help them with the heavy lifting and to be able to demonstrate to the incoming students the Jesuit ideal of men and women for others."

Members of the football, men's soccer, track and field, rowing, water polo, baseball, women's basketball and cheerleading squads assisted with Opening Day today. The cheerleaders greeted the new students as they pulled onto campus and the other student-athletes hauled boxes and other heavy goods, including refrigerators, televisions and cases of water, up flights of stairs, gleaning admiration from parents and students who thought they would have to do the heavy lifting themselves.
