Live Results The time has finally arrived for Fordham alumnus Kerri Gallagher (FCRH '11). Four years removed from her last competition representing Fordham, Gallagher will be running for the United States at this week's 2015 IAAF World Championships, which are in Beijing, China.
Gallagher won't have to wait long to get started, as she is slated to compete in the 1,500 run on day one of the Championship at 11:15 AM local time on Saturday (11:15 PM ET on Friday). The first six runners in each heat plus the next six fastest times qualify for the semi-final on Sunday at 8:45 PM (8:45 AM ET). The final is set for Tuesday at 8:35 PM local time (8:35 AM ET).
There are three openings heats with Gallagher being in the final one, which also features world record holder Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia. A total of 35 runners are in the event, which include fellow Americans Shannon Rowbury (Silver Medalist at 2014 IAAF Continental Cup – 1,500 meters), Jennifer Simpson (Gold Medalist at 2011 World Championships; Silver Medalist at 2013 World Championships), and Lauren Johnson (NAIA All-American in three sports at Huntington University). Entering the championship, Dibaba (3:50.07), Rowbury (3:56.29), and Simpson (3:57.30) account for three of the four best times in 2015.
Gallagher punched her ticket to China in early July, as she won the 1,500 meter event at the XXVI Meeting Internazionale di Atletica Leggera in Italy.
Kerri GallagherGallagher won the event in a meet record time of 4:03.56, breaking the former meet record of 4:04.82, set by American Gabrielle Anderson in 2012. Gallagher's time secured her spot at the 2015 IAAF World Championship.
Gallagher, who races for Team Oiselle and the New York Athletic Club, took third in the 1500m finals in Eugene, Oregon, in June at the U.S. Championships. As the third place finisher, she earned a spot on the U.S. team that traveled through Europe this summer.
In the spring, Gallagher, a Belle Harbor, N.Y. native, won the Olympic Development Women's Mile at the Penn Relays. She covered the distance in a time of 4:34, three seconds in front of second-place finisher Sheila Reid, a former NCAA Cross Country champion and Canadian Olympian.
