Bronx, N.Y. - After almost two weeks of practice, the Fordham football Rams experienced their first true scrimmage of camp on Friday night on Jack Coffey Field and both sides of the ball showed hints of good things to come for the 2015 season.
Â
Here are some notes from the scrimmage:
Â
The night started with the offense trapped back on its own one looking for a first down.
Kevin Anderson completed a pair of passes to pick up the first down with the first offense and
Kendall Pearcey got the first down on the ground for the second.
Â
After that things were more difficult for the offense as the defense held the offense as the first string was held to a three-and-out while the second string moved the ball but a long field goal attempt was no good.
Â
After three scoreless drives, the offense got on the board with a 37-yard
Alejandro Cardenas field goal.
Â
A second field goal, a 43-yarder from
Makay Redd, was set up by a 25-yard Anderson pass to
Austin Longi.
Â
Pearcey scored the first touchdown of the night on a 45-yard run
Â
The night ended with a red zone drill which proved fruitful for the offense as Anderson connected with
Robbie Cantelli for a 25-yard scoring strike on the first play and
Luke Medlock led the second string to a score, connecting with
Isaiah Searight with a seven-yard TD pass.
Â
Anderson came back and connected once again with Cantelli, who led all receivers with four catches for 62 yards, with another score.
Â
Anderson completed 11 of 17 passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns while Medlock completed 12 of 17 passes for 71 yards and a score.
Â
Longi caught four passes for 53 yards while
Jonathan Lumley grabbed two for 27 yards.
Â
Eleven different receivers caught at least one pass.
Â
The Rams ended the scrimmage by singing the school fight song.
Â
Coach Moorhead quote of the night (using a quote from Anthony Senerchia, a man who has been stricken with ALS and who addressed the team on Wednesday about his experiences):
"Anyone can be a leader in good times. You need to be a leader all the time."
