BRONX, N.Y. -- Earlier this summer, the Fordham softball team had five of its student-athletes take part in exhibition contests against Team USA. In a doubleheader at Moody Park in Ewing, N.J. (July 11), soon to be juniors
Sydney Canessa,
Lindsay Mayer,
Ally Vergona and
Lauren Quense were part of a group of collegiate all stars from across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions that faced the Women's National Team.
The All Stars held Team USA scoreless heading into the fourth inning before Team USA answered back with three runs for the eventual 3-1 victory in game one. In the nightcap, Team USA's early offense helped propel it to an 8-1 win to sweep the exhibition doubleheader.
Comprised of 19 current players and recent graduates from schools such as Boston College, Elon, Fordham, Hofstra, Lehigh, Manhattan, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Penn State, Robert Morris, Stony Brook and Syracuse, the All Star exhibition games served as a tune-up for Team USA in advance of the Pan American Games, July 15-26 in Toronto, Ontario.
Senior to be
Patti Maloney also played against Team USA (June 18) as a member of the Maryland All Stars. She tossed 3.0 innings, yielding just one earned run.
