As most summer baseball leagues are almost complete with their All-Star breaks, two Fordham Rams were able to partake in All-Star festivities, one in a game and one in home run derby.
Â
This Tuesday, July 21
st, Fordham pitcher
Greg Weissert will take part in the Northwoods League All-Star Game, which annually celebrates the top talent from the world's largest organized baseball league. Â Â The game will be played at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin at 7:00 PM.
Â
Weissert will play for the North Division All-Stars after an excellent first half of the season for the Thunder Bay Border Cats. He leads the Border Cats with a 1.37 ERA and 44 strikeouts over 39.1 innings of work. Seeing time as both a starter and a reliever, he has appeared in 11 games, starting six, posting two wins and two saves, while allowing just six earned runs.
Â
Fordham outfielder
Ryan Mahoney has already taken part in his All-Star festivity, as he won a fan vote as the final competitor in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League Home Run Derby at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, New York back on July 15
th.
Â
Mahoney made the most of his opportunity, hitting seven home runs over the first two rounds to advance to the finals. He hit three long balls in the opening round to advance, and followed with a round-high four home runs to get into the finals. Unfortunately for Mahoney, he was bested by Hunter Dolshun (UMBC), 6-2, for the home run derby crown.
Â
To date, Mahoney has played in 27 games for the North Fork Ospreys, batting .241 with 12 runs scored, five doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 13 RBI.
