Official Release Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham University senior rower
Nicole Arrato added to her stack of awards today as she was named Third Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America
®.
Arrato is the fourth Ram to earn Academic All-America
® accolades this year, joining Brett Biestek and Dan Light (football) and Michele Daubman (softball). It is the first time since the start of the Academic All-America
® program in the early 1960's that Fordham had four players honored in a year (the previous best was two which occurred eight times, most recently in 2011-2012).
"This is a very well deserved award for Nicole," said head coach
Ted Bonanno. "She has done a tremendous job at balancing her academics with her rowing, excelling equally in both."
A senior Psychology major with a minor in Spanish from Oxford, Conn., Arrato earned her fourth academic honor of the year as she had previously been named Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District, a 2015 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete, her second straight CRCA Scholar-Athlete award, and Academic All-Atlantic 10. She is a four-year member of the women's rowing team and a two-time selection to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team. Arrato competed in the Rams' top boat all four years, including serving in the varsity 8 this season, grabbing bronze at the 2015 Kerr Cup and third in the petite final at the 2015 Dad Vails.
Arrato, a 2015 Atlantic 10 Postgraduate Scholarship recipient, was the recipient of the Kieran Award at the 2015 Block F Dinner which is presented to the Fordham College senior athlete who has made significant academic and athletic contributions. The award honors the memory of John Kieran, Fordham College Class of 1912, and a famous radio broadcaster, sports editor of the New York Times and a member of Baseball's Hall of Fame.
