The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its weekly baseball awards on Monday and Fordham sophomore pitcher
Greg Weissert (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was selected as the league's Pitcher of the Week. It is Weissert's second career weekly award, as he was a Rookie of the Week once as a freshman.
Weissert was outstanding on Friday in the series opener against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. He threw his first career complete game win, allowing just one earned run on two hits, while striking out a career-high 12 batters.
He retired the first 18 batters he faced, taking a perfect game into the seventh inning. He also made two defensive web gems in the game, catching a line drive with his bare hand in the sixth and then he barehanded a hot shot ground ball to the mound in the ninth.
The win improved Weissert to 5-4 this season and lowered his ERA to 3.63. In conference play, this season, he is 4-2 with a 3.89 ERA in seven appearances.
Weissert and the Rams are back in action on Thursday, May 7
th, when they travel to VCU to start a three-game Atlantic 10 series in Richmond, Virginia.
