The Fordham track & field team wrapped up their stay at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia. The Fordham men finished tenth with 40.5 points, while the women were 12
th with 19 points
On the men's side, George Mason won the team title with 190.5 points, 24 ahead of second place finisher Rhode Island. Duquesne took third with 85 points, followed by VCU (81) and Massachusetts (76.5) in the top five. Rounding out the rest of the standings were Saint Joseph's (75), La Salle (52), Davidson (43) Saint Louis (42), Fordham, and George Washington (3).
Leading the way for Fordham, senior
Lester Taylor earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in the 800 meter run, as he placed second with a time of 1:52.07.
Freshman
Thomas Slattery also scored high for the Rams, placing third in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:50.35. Entering the final lap, he was tenth overall and found his way to the podium for a third place bronze finish.
Danielle Rowe
The Rams scored in three other events on day two. Senior
Austin Ruiz just missed the podium in the shot put, as he finished fourth overall with a distance of 50' 0", while the 4x100 relay team of
Nicholas Regan,
Peter Strom,
Randall Turner, and
Daniel Green took eighth in 48.03 seconds. The final scorer was the 4x800 relay team of Green, Taylor,
Fritz Heinrich, and
Brian Cook, as they placed seventh in 7:44.05.
On the women's side, George Mason held onto their day one lead to capture the team championship with 176 points. VCU grabbed second with 136 points, followed by Dayton (92), Massachusetts (76.5), Duquesne (72) and Richmond (72) to finish the top five. Rhode Island (62), Saint Louis (55.5), Saint Joseph's (35), Davidson (31), La Salle (27), Fordham (19), and George Washington (4) rounded out the rest of the field.
Fordham scored in four events on day two led by
Kristen Stuart, who was fifth in the 400 meter hurdles final in 1:01.75, while
Danielle Rowe took seventh in the 800 meter final in 2:15.69.
The final two scoring events came in relay action. The women's 4x800 relay team of
Melissa Higgins, Stuart,
Mara Lieberman, and Rowe got beat out by less than a second for the event win, but still managed to make the podium in third place with a time of 8:49.91. The 4x400 relay team also scored, as
Merissa Wright Shanna Heaney,
Kylie Farrell, and
Elise Tigani placed eighth in a time of 3:56.44.
The Rams will next be in action at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier on May 11th.
