The Fordham track & field team began competition at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia. After day one, Fordham is sixth in the men's competition and tenth in the women's.
On the men's side, Rhode Island concluded day one with 62.5 points, which is good for a 25-point lead over second place George Mason (37.5). Duquesne is third on the men's side with 32 points and is followed by Massachusetts (23.5) and Davidson (20) in the top five. Rounding out the rest of the standings are Fordham (18.5), VCU (15), Saint Joseph's (13), La Salle (5), Saint Louis (4) and George Washington (3).
Leading the way for Fordham, sophomore
Nicholas Regan earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in the javelin throw, as he placed second with a distance of 185' 5".
Brian Cook
Freshman
Brian Cook also scored high for the Rams, placing third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a season-best time of 9:12.97.
The Rams had three other competitors score on day one, as
Quincy O'Connor placed sixth in the 10,000 meter run in 31:08.49, Patrick McGuire was eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of134' 3", and
Ryan Riviere, who tied for eighth in the pole vault, clearing 13' 5 ¼".
In preliminary competition,
Lester Taylor qualified seventh for the finals of the 800 meter run, posting a time of 1:52.81
On the women's side, George Mason scored 43 points in the six women's events scored to take the lead after day one. Dayton is currently second with 38 points followed by Massachusetts in third with 31.5 points. Duquesne (30), Rhode Island (21), Saint Louis (16.5), Richmond (15), VCU (12), Davidson (10), Fordham (6), Saint Joseph's (5), George Washington and La Salle (3) round out the rest of the field.
Brianna Tevnan
Fordham scored in one event on Saturday, while qualifying for two of Sunday's finals.
Senior
Brianna Tevnan was the lone scorer, as she took third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a school record and ECAC qualifying time of 10:39.55.
In preliminary action,
Danielle Rowe qualified third for Sunday's finals in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:11.59, while
Kristen Stuart qualified fifth in the 400 meter hurdles in an ECAC time of 1:01.64.
The final day of competition begin at
8:45 AM on Sunday.
