The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its weekly baseball awards on Monday and Fordham junior pitcher
Brett Kennedy (Brigantine, N.J.) was selected as the league's Co-Pitcher of the Week. He shares the honor with VCU's Heath Dwyer.
For Kennedy, this is his first pitcher of the week award, and his second career Atlantic 10 accolade, having earned Rookie of the Week once as a freshman. He is also the fourth different Ram to win a weekly award this season, joining
Luke Stampfl,
Ben Greenberg, and
Greg Weissert.
Kennedy was outstanding on Thursday in the series opener against the Dayton Flyers. He struck out a career-high 10 batters over seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits. His 10 strikeouts moved him into second place on Fordham's all-time strikeout list with 214, trailing only Javier Martinez's record of 264 (2004-07).
The win gave Kennedy his career-high sixth win of the season and lowered his ERA to 3.83. In conference play, this season, he is 5-3 with a 3.51 ERA in eight starts.
Kennedy and the Rams are back in action on Wednesday, May 20
th, when they take on Rhode Island at 1:30 PM in the opening round of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship, held at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Va.
