The 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District® Baseball Team was released last week, recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Among a revised listing of honorees in District I is Fordham junior infielder
Joseph Runco (Spring Brook Township, Pa.), who joins teammate
Matthew Kozuch on the national ballot.
Runco was mistakenly left off the initial list of honorees, as there was a tie in voting for the final infielder position. A total of five infielders have now been recognized as First Team Academic All-District.
Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
A Business Administration major with a concentration in Finance 3.66 GPA, Runco is a three-year member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and a former Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team selection. Starting all 48 games he has appeared in, he has been the Rams' starting second baseman this season, and leads the Rams with 28 stolen bases. Currently, he ranks in the top 15 in the NCAA in stolen bases and stolen bases per game and moved into the top ten all-time at Fordham in career stolen bases with 70. Runco has 15 multi-hit games this season, good for second on the team and is the team leader with 38 runs scored.
First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month and in early June.
