Box ScoreNorth Haven, Conn. – The Fordham University women's tennis team traveled up to North Haven, Connecticut, today where the Rams got back on track, defeating Quinnipiac University, 4-3, at the North Haven Health and Racquet Club.
The Rams opened the contest by dropping the doubles point, losing two of the three doubles matches. Fordham's
Estelle Wong and
Julie Leong upended Quinnipiac's Sitilia Rencheli and Sophia Dzulynsky at third doubles, 8-7 (7-3), but
Elliesa Ball and
Sarah Ali were knocked off by Jacqueline Raynor and Michelle Dassa at first doubles, 8-5, and
Bella Genkina and
Anika Novacek fell to Rachel Horton and Sydney Young at the second position, 8-2.
Fordham came back to win the match by taking four of the six singles matches, three in straight sets. Wong bested Young at third singles, 6-1, 6-0, while Leong was victorious at the fourth position over Horton, 6-0, 6-2, and
Destiny Grunin took sixth singles from Ariana Launie, 6-4, 6-3.
Ali clinched the match for the Rams with a gutsy comeback win at first singles. After dropping the first set to Dzulynsky, 6-2, she came back to win the second, 6-4, and the tiebreaker, 10-2.
The Rams return to action on Saturday, April 11, as they host Xavier University on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 11:00 AM.
