Photo GalleryBronx, N.Y. – It looks like spring may have finally sprung as temperatures where in the low 50's when the Fordham football Rams took to Murphy Field for practice number five of the 2015 spring season on Wednesday.
With the Rams a third of the way through the spring season, head coach
Joe Moorhead started running the troops through some live drills but left plenty of time for position coaches to offer instructions to a group of student-athletes who didn't see much playing time last year. With over 30 players lost to graduation from last year's Patriot League champions, including 18 starters, the staff is busy grooming the next group of Rams to carry the torch in 2015.
Jerrick Hall, the newest assistant coach, joined the Rams at practice this week. He comes to Fordham after a year at the University of New Haven and four at Elon University. Hall is a North Carolina State graduate where he played defensive tackle and helped the Wolfpack to three bowl game appearances.
George Easley and Randy ZingoThere were a few special guests at practice on Wednesday, including Honorable Robert K. Holdman, FCRH '86 and LAW '91, a former Fordham football player and Gridiron President Emeritus; Randy Zingo, FCRH '96, former Ram tight end who was a teammate of Moorhead's at Fordham; and George Easley, grandfather of former UConn player Marcus Easley.
Marcus Easley was a member of the UConn team when Moorhead arrived at the school, a walk-on on an academic scholarship who didn't see much playing time, catching just ten passes in his first three years. But under Moorhead's new offensive system he excelled, leading all receivers with 48 receptions for 893 yards and eight touchdowns. He was drafted in the fourth round by the Buffalo Bills in 2010 and has been a member of the team since, which explains George Easley wearing a buffalo Bill hat and sweatshirt.
