Bronx, N.Y. – Though it was an off-day from practice, Saturday was anything but an off-day for the Fordham University football student-athletes who participated in three different community service projects on the day. The Rams worked at cleaning a local park, helping with the Relay for Life on Edwards Parade and continued their work with The Eagle Academy.
Â
"To see these guys give up a free day to give back to the community really says a lot about their character," said head coach
Joe Moorhead. "These student-athletes are great representatives of the Fordham football program and of Fordham University."

First thing in the morning, three members of the team traveled to Haffen Park to assist with the inaugural Gabelli Day of Service. The Rams partnered with the nonprofit organization, "Bronx is Blooming" to help clean up the local park where they assisted with clearing brush and spreading mulch throughout the park.

Bronx is Blooming (BIB) engages communities and youth in environmental stewardship through the beautification of local park. Our mission is to revitalize under-resourced open spaces in the Bronx and to inspire communities to advocate for their parkland. BIB accomplishes this by managing park restoration projects, and by developing area youth to assume green leadership roles in ongoing maintenance efforts. This approach of combining green restoration with cultivating local stewards creates a culture of civic participation that empowers Bronx residents to be the drivers of local change and protectors of the borough's natural resources.

Back on campus, a group of Rams assisted with the annual Relay for Life, helping to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. The Rams have a
Relay for Life fundraising page at where donations are still being accepted. The football squad set a goal of $500 and doubled that with $1,000 raised to date. The Rams also raised money during the event by selling chances to throw a football to a target with winners receiving Fordham football koozies and also selling water balloons that could be thrown at unsuspecting students on Edwards Parade.

American Cancer Society Relay For Life campus events serve as a powerful way to raise awareness and funds in the fight against cancer, from helping people facing the disease in your community to ensuring cancer is a thing of the past for future generations. The Relay For Life movement features campus and community events that offer an opportunity to honor the cancer survivors in your life, promote how you can reduce your cancer risk, and raise money to help find a cure. Today, with the support of thousands of student volunteers, the American Cancer Society is helping save more than 400 lives a day.

A group of Rams also traveled to
The Eagle Academy as part of Fordham football's ongoing partnership with the school. The players helped the Eagle Academy students with their homework and continue to serve as role models for the young men who attend the school.
