Photo Gallery Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham women's tennis squad hosted Queens College in its final regular season match of the season as the Rams tune up for the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championships to be held from Thursday through Sunday in Charlottesville, Virginia. Fordham closed out the season on a high note, defeating the Knights 5-2, to go to 11-6 on the year.
Fordham opened the match by winning all three doubles matches to take the doubles point.
Estelle Wong and
Julie Leong got things started with an 8-1 win over Sumeera Kamil and Olivia Stauffer at third doubles and then
Sarah Ali and
Elliesa Ball took first doubles from Jenna Plevako and Andrea Samson, 8-5, and seconds later,
Carolina Sa and
Bella Genkina upended Cami Abdallah and Angelika Sobiecka at the second position, 8-6.
Genkina picked up the first Fordham singles win, besting Sarah O'Leary at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-1, and then
Sarah Ali took second singles, winning the first set, 6-0, and leading in the second, 4-1, when Kamil retired with an injury.
But the Rams dropped the next two singles matches before Leong won in three sets over Sobiecka at the fourth position, winning the first set 6-4, dropping the second, 6-4, and then winning the third, 6-2, to clinch the match for the Rams.
Estelle Wong then made the final 5-2 with a comeback three set win over Samson at third singles, dropping the first set, 6-3, but coming back to win the second, 6-0, and the third, 7-6, taking the tie breaker, 7-0.
The Rams open the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship on Thursday, April 16, as the fifth-seeded Rams take on 12
th-seeded University of Rhode Island at 10:00 a.m. at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.
