Box Score Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham women's tennis team hosted Rhode Island on Sunday for Senior Day on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts as the Rams honored Ellie Ball,
Sarah Ali,
Julie Leong,
Bella Genkina and
Anika Novacek prior to the 6-1 win.
Fordham opened the match taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches.
Sarah Ali and
Elliesa Ball took first doubles from Taylor Holden and Anna Peacock, 8-5, while
Julie Leong and
Estelle Wong were victorious over Jordan Rucks and Gina Atanasoff at the third position, 8-3. Rhode Island's Kathleen Uy and Nithila Asokaraj upended
Bella Genkina and
Anika Novacek at second doubles, 8-2.
The home Rams then won five of the six singles matches to secure the victory.
Destiny Grunin got things started with a 6-0, 6-1 win at sixth singles over Atanasoff while Genkina followed that with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Rucks at the fifth position.
Estelle Wong clinched the match for Fordham as she took third singles from Peacock, 6-3, 6-2.
Ali made it 5-0 for Fordham with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Uy at the second spot while Leong provided the sixth Fordham point by winning a tiebreaker from Asokaraj at fourth singles, winning the first set, 7-5, dropping the second, 7-5 but then winning the tiebreaker, 10-4.
Fordham will close out the regular season on Tuesday, April 14 as they host Queens College on the Hawthorn/Rooney Court sat 3:00 p.m.
