Second and Final Round ResultsMALVERN, Pa. -- The Fordham men's golf team shaved 17 strokes off its first round score and finished with a 14-over-par 298 Tuesday in the second and final round of Villanova's Wildcat Invitational at White Manor Country Club. The Rams finished with a two-round total of 613 (315-298), which will be good enough for ninth or 10th place depending on the host team's finish. Binghamton and Delaware were both tied for first in the 16-team field.
In team play, senior
Drew Dufresne improved his score by five strokes and fired a 2-over-par 73 to finish with a 9-over-par 151 (78-73). Freshman
Joe Trim finished one stroke behind with a 152 (77-75) after shooting a 4-over-par 75, while senior
Ben Alcorn also produced a 2-over-par 73 to finish with a 153 (80-73).
Sophomore
Oscar Cabanas improved his score by six strokes and rounded out the scoring for the Rams with a 77 to finish at 160 (83-77). Senior
Jeff Hogan also competed, but his second consecutive 80 did not count towards the overall team score for the round, as he finished with a 160 (80-80) as well.
Individually, freshmen
Matt Schiller and
James Mongey entered Tuesday's play in a tie for 20th place on the individual leaderboard. Schiller would shoot a 5-over-par 76 to finish in a tie with Dufresne at 151 (75-76), while Mongey shot a 78 to finish with a 153 (75-78). Senior
Brian Engstrom shed three strokes off his score to shoot 5-over-par 76, which gave him a two-round total of 155 (79-76).
Fordham returns to action this Saturday, April 4 at The Met Intercollegiate, hosted by Yale, which will take place at Century Country Club and Old Oaks Country Club in Purchase, N.Y.
