First Round ResultsMALVERN, Pa. -- The Fordham men's golf team started the spring portion of its schedule Monday at Villanova's Wildcat Invitational. The Rams shot a 31-over par 315 and sit in 13th place (out of 16 teams) after first-round play held at the par-71 White Manor Country Club. Delaware leads the field with a 10-over-par 284, while Saint Joseph's (295) and Drexel (297) both broke 300.
However, it was a pair of freshmen for Fordham that stole the show for the Rams in the opening round.
James Mongey and
Matt Schiller, who are both playing as individuals, each carded 4-over-par 75's and sit in a tie for 20th place (out of 95) on the individual leaderboard. The duo both recorded three birdies.
Another freshman,
Joe Trim, paced Fordham with a 77, which goes towards the overall team score. Senior
Drew Dufresne shot a 78, while seniors
Ben Alcorn and
Jeff Hogan each carded 80's. Sophomore
Oscar Cabanas also competed and finished with an 83, but his score did not count toward the team's overall score.
Also competing as an individual was senior
Brian Engstrom, who shot a 79.
The Rams conclude the tournament Tuesday with the final 18 holes.
