ResultsCherry Hill, N.J. – Despite the thermostat saying the opposite, the Fordham rowing squad opened its spring season on Saturday by competing at the 2015 Murphy Cup on the Cooper River where the varsity 8 placed fifth in the grand final.

The Fordham first varsity 8 of
Ashleigh Aitchison,
Maura O'Donnell,
Fiona Murtagh, Ashley Hawksworth,
Caroline Hamann,
Kerry Egan,
Jessica Kammen, and
Nicole Arrato, with
Caitlin Sershon at coxswain won their heat with time of 6:57.10, beating Buffalo and Lehigh to the line. The win advanced the Rams to the grand final where they placed fifth in a time of 7:02.88. Navy won the event in 6:47.29 followed by Holy Cross, Drexel, George Washington, Fordham and Buffalo.

The Rams also entered a boat in the varsity four and the second varsity 8.

The varsity 4 of
Caroline Sneider,
Ariene Merkle, Sam Cerquiera, and
Amanda Rossi, with Jackie Ramos at coxswain, placed fourth in its heat, covered the course in 8:46.98, ahead of Penn State and Temple B but behind George Washington, Buffalo and La Salle.

Kristen Shuman, Katie Dillion, Brynn Fiacchi,
Dena Bussa, Jess LaJoie, Kat Napoli,
Kelly Leonard, and
Leslie Fung, with
Rebecca Aviles at coxswain, finished fifth in its heat.

The Rams return to action on Thursday, April 2, as they compete against Iona College at Orchard Beach, in Pelham, N.Y.
