The Fordham track & field team began its outdoor season on Friday at the two-day Fred Hardy Invitational, held at the University of Richmond.

On day one, Fordham competed in eight events overall with the team's best performances coming in the 5,000 meter run. On the men's side,
Quincy O'Connor won the event with a time of 14:52.67, followed by
Brian Cook in fifth (15:10.08),
Mike Turi in sixth (15:14.81), and
Jake Duckworth in 12
th (15:34.51). In the women's race,
Brianna Tevnan earned second overall in 17:39.53, while
Sarah Glockenmeier finished 12
th (19:15.16).

The Rams also had a number of runners in the 1500 meter event.Â
Thomas Slattery led all men's runners by taking seventh in 3:55.50, while
Ryan Polo was 15
th in 3:59.91.Â
Mara Lieberman was the top Fordham runner on the women's side, tying for eighth in 4:38.42, with
Shanna Heaney in 19
th (4:51.25).

Fordham also had a pair of top ten finishers in the women's 400 meter hurdles, as
Jennifer Boerke placed fourth in 1:04.91 with
Melissa Higgins in seventh in 1:05.47.

The rest of the Fordham competitors on day one were in the men's field events. In the pole vault,
Ryan Riviere tied for fifth overall (4.30m), while
Nicholas Regan grabbed fifth in the javelin throw (52.59m).Â
Austin Ruiz and
Pat McGuire rounded out the competitors in the shot put, placing 15
th (13.53m) and 25
th (12.09m), respectively.
