Box ScoreOrlando, Fla. (March 16, 2015) – The Fordham University women's tennis squad got its spring trip off on the right foot, shutting out the Savannah College of Arts and Design, 7-0.
The Rams opened the match taking the doubles point, winning all three doubles matches.
Elliesa Ball and
Sarah Ali defeated Lee-Anne Lingo and Cori Cummings at first doubles, 8-4, while
Estelle Wong and
Julie Leong were victorious at second doubles, 8-1, over Emma Bilyeu and Antonella Altamiran and
Anika Novacek and
Carolina Sa took third doubles from Tina Gancev and Elisa Freitas, 8-0.
The Rams then swept all six singles matches, winning all in straight sets. Ball upended Lingo at first singles, 6-2, 6-2, Ali took second singles from Altamiran, 6-1, 6-1, and Wong defeated Cummings at the thi5rd position, 6-4, 6-3.
At fourth singles, Leong dropped just one set in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Freitas, 6-0, 6-1, while
Destiny Grunin was even better, not losing a single match to Gancev at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Sa defeated Bilyeu at sixth singles, 7-5, 6-1.
The Rams return to action on Friday, March 20, as they face Bethune Cookman in Orlando at 1:00 p.m.
