ResultsAfter hosting day one of the Metropolitan Indoor Championship, the Fordham track & field team was at the Armory Track & Field Center for day two, as the Rams placed third in the women's competition and fourth in the men's. Overall, Fordham took first place in six events.
In the women's competition, St. John's won the team competition with 168 points, followed by Rutgers (154), Fordham (85), Southern Connecticut St. (68), Manhattan (62), LIU-Brooklyn (61), Columbia (53), Saint Peter's (34), Wagner (33), Fairleigh Dickinson (16), Iona (15), NYU (12), St. Francis (NY) (8), and Marist (4).
Leading the way for the Rams, senior
Titi Fagade won the 500 meter run in a season-best time of 1:13.26, followed by
Danielle Rowe in second (1:14.72) and
Kristen Stuart in fourth (1:14.97). Later, Fagade and Stuart joined with
Melissa Higgins and
Mara Lieberman to win the 4x800 relay in a season-best time of 9:09.49.
Higgins and Lieberman also scored individually. Higgins placed third in the 1,000 meter run in 2:58.37, while Lieberman was third in the mile run in a season-best time of 5:01.10.
Fordham also scored well in the 3,000 meter run, as three Rams found the scoring column.
Ariana Bottalico was the top finisher in fourth place at 10:32.18, followed by
Brianne Roche in sixth (10:34.33), and
Shea Williams in eighth (10:38.36).
The Rams had four other individual scorers, as
Brianna Tevnan (17:29.48) and
Sarah Glockenmeier (18:30.35) were second and fifth, respectively, in the 5,000 meter run,
Merissa Wright grabbed fifth in the 800 meter run (2:15.84), and
Melanie Notarstefano took eighth in the 1,000 meter run (3:04.10).
On top of the 4x800 relay, Fordham had a very good showing in the other two relay events. The 4x400 relay took third in 3:55.80, while the distance medley relay finished second in 12:25.14.
In the men's competition, Rutgers won the team title with 167 points, followed by Manhattan (149.5), Southern Connecticut St. (98), Fordham (82), LIU-Brooklyn (50), Wagner (47), Columbia (41), Saint Peter's (36), Fairleigh Dickinson (35), NYU (29.5), Iona (15), St. Francis (NY) (12), Marist (6), and Stony Brook (3).
Melissa Higgins Fordham posted three individual event winners, which began with
Lester Taylor in the 1,000 meter run, as he clocked in in 2:29.91. Taylor wasn't alone in scoring in the 1,000 meters with
Ryan McGann (2:34.43) and
Fritz Heinrich (2:35.25) taking fifth and sixth, respectively.
Then, in the mile run,
Thomas Slattery took first place in a time of 4:15.68, while
Mike Turi grabbed first place in the 5,000 meter run in an IC4A qualifying time of 14:42.13. Turi was joined in the scoring by
Nik O'Brien (15:03.41) and
Jonathan Annelli (15:24.94), who placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 5K run.
Slattery was also featured in the Rams' final event win of the day in the distance medley relay, as he joined up with O'Brien,
Ian Williams, and
Brian Cook to post a season-best time of 10:14.41.
Fordham scored in five other events on the day, which began with
Daniel Green, taking 8
th in the 500 meter run in 1:07.50. Then in the 3,000 meter run, the duo of
Quincy O'Connor (8:35.86) and
Jake Duckworth (8:46.01) took fourth and sixth place, while
Austin Ruiz was fourth in the shot put with a distance of 47' 7 ¼".
The last two scoring events were the 4x400 and the 4x800 relays. The 4x400 relay placed eighth in 3:33.25, while the team of Taylor, Green,
Devin Rocks, and Annelli placed second in the 4x800 relay in an IC4A qualifying time of 7:51.79.
The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on February 13-14 at the Valentine's Day Classic, hosted by Boston University.
