Photo GalleryDay three of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship is in the books and the Fordham women's swimming team sits in fourth place at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
It is a battle for the top spot, as Massachusetts still leads the team scoring with 411 points, followed by Richmond's 409. Duquesne is in third with 333, followed by Fordham (296), Davidson (286), George Mason (268), La Salle (215), Saint Louis (158), Rhode Island (111), St. Bonaventure (92), and George Washington (67).
The first scoring event on day three was the 400 individual medley, where the Rams had a pair of finalists.
Megan Polaha finished eighth in the "A" final in a time of 4:28.30, while
Megan Gehrich was fourth in the "B" final, good for 12
th overall in 4:27.93.
Next was the 100 butterfly, where the Rams again had two swimmers in the finals.
Shannon Lulley found the podium for the for third straight day, earning Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors by placing second in a school record and NCAA "B" cut time of 53.82 seconds. It broke the old mark of 54.32 seconds, set by Courtney Collyer in 2012.
Aurelia O'Keefe qualified for the "B" final, finishing eighth in that heat in 57.67 seconds.
In the 200 freestyle,
Kalena Laurent was the lone Ram to reach the finals. She placed eighth in the "A" final with a time of 1:51.51.
Morgan Fairclough The next event was the 100 breaststroke, as
Kelly Carroll and
Victoria McGovern made the finals. McGovern won the "B" final with a personal-best time of 1:03.65, while Caroll was seventh in the "A" final in a time of 1:04.02.
The last of the individual swimming event on day three was the 100 backstroke, where
Morgan Fairclough tried to defend to her title after posting an NCAA "B" cut time of 55.03 seconds in the preliminaries. Fairclough would get touched out by .07 seconds to place third in the final in 55.89 seconds.
Chandler Lulley qualified for the "B" final, taking fifth in that heat, good for 13
th overall in 56.87 seconds.
The final event on day three was the 400 medley relay. This time, it was Fordham's turn to win the touch out, as the Rams' relay group of Fairclough, McGovern, and the Lulley sisters won the event by .07 seconds over Richmond in a season-best time of 3:43.83.
The Championship concludes on Saturday at 10:00 AM with preliminaries in 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, and 200 butterfly events, followed by the 1650 freestyle at 3:00 PM and the finals at 6:30 PM.
